It is known, that since birth the best food for newborns is breast milk. As children get older, their need for nutrients increases, and breast milk alone is not enough that can be compensated with the introduction into the baby diet of baby food. It is established that the minimum age at which it is allowed to introduce the first products of complementary foods is 4 months. Prior to this age a child is prepared only to the absorption of breast milk and adapted milk formulas. Later, in the diet of children an important place dairy products occupy (butter milk for children, bio-butter milk, yogurt), as well as children's herbal tea of commercial production that contain medicinal herbs.

In addition, the timely introduction of complementary foods promotes the formation of the masticatory apparatus, and adequate gustatory habits.

Food products for baby food is specialized food products intended for baby food for children (for infants from 0 to 3 years, preschool children from 3 to 6 years, children of school age from 6 years and older), corresponding to the appropriate physiological needs of the child's body and which does no harm to health of the child of the appropriate age. Among the children's food the complementary foods should be distinguished (juices, cottage cheese, egg yolk, etc.) and meals of complementary foods (fruit and vegetable purees, cereals, meat, meat-fish-vegetable, vegetable-meat and vegetable-fish purees, etc.).

On July 1, 2010 as confirmation of product safety the state registration certificate was introduced, valid on the territory of the countries of Customs Union (Eurasian Economic Community). Registration of products, materials, substances and preparations is carried out in accordance with the Customs Union Agreement on Sanitary Measures and the Resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation of 30.06.2004 № 322 “On Approval of the regulation on Federal Service for Surveillance in Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare”.

State registration certificate confirms the conformity of baby food products to technical regulations of the Customs Union CU TR 021/2011 “On safety of food products”, and is issued for the entire period of the industrial production of domestic products and imported products supply. Issuance of certificates of state registration is carried out by the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) and its territorial bodies.

The whole process of state registration involves several steps:

  • Expertise of the documents provided for state registration of products (in accordance with the type of product);
  • Expertise of the results of the conducted research studies and trials;
  • The decision to issue or refuse to issue a certificate of state registration;
  • In the case of a positive decision to issue a Certificate of state registration of the product – entering the information about the product and its manufacturer in the register of products that passed state registration;
  • Issuance of certificate of state registration.
